ARTIST STATEMENT
"When I first started out in the fantasy art business in 1999, I painted only Celtic deities. It was what was in my heart...what I was most drawn to. Over time, I sought commercial success and therefore branched out to painting the pretty faerie art that the market wanted more of. Now, I find myself pulled back by Celtic mythology, to my roots...to a more authentic version of faerie and goddess art. And for this new series, I have switched mediums. I now use only colored pencil and oil on my originals.
With regard to my subject matter, I've always felt drawn to the goddess and to the ancient cultures who respected and revered the divine feminine. I find that the women of Celtic mythology interest me most, and provide endless inspiration for my paintings. Perhaps it is my Scottish roots (you can read more about my ancestors at www.clangalbraith.org), or maybe it is something even deeper that draws me to these Celtic deities.
On a personal note, it is my own role as a mother and the love I have for my daughter pictured with me above, that has inspired me to try my hand at a new series of Celtic goddesses. It is a way for me to celebrate the divinity of being a woman, a mother and a daughter. Of course I'll be sure to put a few Gods in the mix as well to keep things interesting.
I feel very personally attached to this collection of art, and will do my best to honor it and only allow these beloved images to be put on a select few fine products. I hope you'll come back often to see what depictions I've been inspired to create next."
